On August 14 workers at the first of three factories owned by the Birds Group, a Bangladesh based textile firm, to participated in open elections for their Participatory Committee, facilitated by Better Work.

“It is my first time and I am excited to cast my vote,” says Bijori Khatun from the sewing section at the Ashulia factory. “I have never voted in any local or national election. That’s why I am excited. I believes Participation Committee can help the workers to raise their issues in the factory that need to be addressed.”
Abu Taher works in the Ironing section of the factory. “I actively took part in the election campaign and I am a supporter of football (a candidate symbol). I think the PC can play the role of a bridge between the workers and the management and it can help reducing a lot of problems in the factory.”
“We are very open to the PC election as we believe it will help to improve the relationship between workers and management,” says Sunbir Ahmed, Assistant General Manager, HR & Compliance for Birds textiles. “Also, by law it is mandatory to have PC in the factory.”
